Winter getaways upon private parkland in the heart of rural Suffolk, compromising a mansion house, coach house, traditional farmhouses, rustic cottages and unique walled garden bothies.
Winter holidays upon private parkland in the heart of rural Suffolk, UK, compromising a mansion house, coach house, traditional farmhouses, rustic cottages and unique walled garden bothies.
Curl up in one of our luxury farmhouses or cottages for a crisp and refreshing winter holiday with family and friends on a scenic Suffolk estate. Enjoy each other’s company with gentle competition over board games in front of the fireplace, bracing winter walks and warming lunches in local pubs. Pad across heated floors and enjoy long soaks in roll top baths overlooking miles of Suffolk estate with roaming deer, and if you’re lucky a kingfisher. When the day draws to a close allow us to take the pressure off with chefs available upon request serving hearty and seasonal food with delicious local Suffolk produce.
Each stay is unique, with guests invited to enjoy winter weeks or weekend breaks in privacy or with staff including chefs, housekeepers and even butlers. Wilderness offers all the pursuits you’d expect of an English country estate, plus some you wouldn’t. As well as golf, clays and fishing, guests can explore the lake on a paddleboard or take a Pashley bicycle for a ride around the estate. There is no better place to snuggle up during the winter months than in our luxury properties, with sheepskin rugs, full red wines from the cellar and hypnos beds to sink into.
Seasonal Winter Feasts
It’s the eating season so spend hours talking through menus with friends, or leave it to our chefs to prepare 3, maybe 4, meals a day. Pork cutlets, organic lamb, mulled wine and local cheese. Doing nothing tastes good.
Yes, there’s wifi. And cinema rooms in the Manor and the Walled Garden. And expansive kitchens to prepare weekend feasts, and sitting rooms to sit in while someone else cooks. Cosy sofas, fireplaces, this is about as comfortable as winter can get.
Braving the Great Outdoors
Don’t let the cold keep you inside. Borrow Hunter wellies, put on a Barbour jacket and head out over the parkland for a bracing winter walk. Take a short drive to Walberswick and walk the coastline, then find The Anchor pub to warm up.
Christmas and New Year
Celebrate the family season by taking over a couple of cottages for a luxury holiday of eating, drinking and enjoying each other’s company. We’ll take the stress of cooking off your hands, with a festive feast prepared by estate cooks. Go for a low-key affair in the Farmhouse or take over the Manor for a grand meal in the dining room.
Avoid another meal in a full restaurant and head to Hex Cottage for a winter break in nature. The warm heart of Wilderness, this thatched home-from-home is electricity-free, with a canopy over the bed and a lovers bench outside. Let’s make it just us two.
Explore the estate and surrounding Suffolk coastline, play a round of gold at nearby Halesworth Golf, part of the estate, take aim at archery or learn more about the nature that calls Wilderness home with one of our Wilderness Rangers. Our service is crafted to your needs and all of our bookings can be made truly bespoke. Due to the variety of properties and spaces available across Wilderness we are flexible in catering for different party sizes and needs, and our reservations team are on hand to ensure your stay is bespoke and runs smoothly.
