Formerly the estate's home farm and without doubt its oldest property, the Farmhouse sits in the heart of the hamlet within the estate’s Arcadian pleasure grounds. Downstairs, the central triple-height hall opens up to a beamed sitting room with comfy sofas, inglenook fireplace and fluffy throws as well as the large kitchen & dining room.
Here, cooks can indulge their passion with a professional range, central island, wine fridge and butler sink and guests can dine in front of another inglenook. Two of the six en suite bedrooms are the on the ground floor and the rest are discovered up an oak staircase with its bridge across the hall.
All feature king-size Hypnos beds, toasty underfloor heating and wide views across the estate. Bathrooms are a mix of luxurious freestanding roll-top baths or powerful showers. Outside, enjoy BBQs on the private terrace, explore the estate on Pashley bicycles or hold your own tournament on the nearby tennis court open year-round. Try your hand at paddle boarding or rowing on the serpentine lake, learn more about the nature that calls Wilderness home with our estate ecologist or practice your shot with world-class clay instructors. Wilderness is nestled in 5,000 acres across three river valleys in the county boasting some of the cleanest air in England, yet just a short drive from Suffolk’s celebrated heritage coast. Here, discover one of England’s finest piers at Southwold, enjoy famous fish & chips in Aldeburgh or make your own gin at the Adnams Brewery. For the adventurous, take to the waves in a rib from Southwold with Coastal Challenger, or visit Go Ape, Suffolk’s biggest tree top adventure. In the beautiful fir trees of Thetford Forest discover your inner jungle explorer by climbing rope ladders, swinging through the trees and hurtling down zip wires.
The Garden of Suffolk is blessed with an abundance of gastro pubs, restaurants, farm shops and artisan producers. Nearby, Mains of Yoxford is a family run restaurant with a great range of dishes for a relaxed weekend dinner. With a menu that changes each day to move with the seasons and availability, everything is cooked on the premises. Treat yourself to a leisurely breakfast or Sunday brunch at the Darsham Nurseries Café. There’s a Middle Eastern flavour to the lunchtime sharing dishes but Pump Street bakery bread, Aspalls Cider and St Peter’s Brewery Beer on the menu keep it local. One of our favourite gastro pubs, The Unruly Pig, near Woodbridge was recently named Suffolk Pub of the Year and in Walberswick, The Anchor is a firm favourite. At nearby RSPB Minsmere, There’s plenty to do here for both the novice and the experienced bird watcher. Use the bird watching hides to shelter you in all weathers or take the nature trail walk to explore the beautiful woods and wetlands scenery. At Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich, experience a working farm with lots to do for the children, great food and shopping. Take the farm trail to see their famous rare breed pigs along with sheep, cows, geese, goats and donkeys. For keen gardeners, find peace and tranquillity in the beautiful Grade I listed gardens at Helmingham Hall.
